St John’s Day

Children and staff recently celebrated St John’s Day on 24th June with many activities and events taking place throughout the day.  St John’s Day is a major Christian Feast marking the birth of Saint John the Baptist, a cousin of Jesus Christ.

The day began with a special assembly about John the Baptist. Mark Oden, vicar of St Nicholas Church and parent at our school, inspired the children with stories about the Saint.

The children made doves, tasted the difference between set and runny honey and saw locusts in a jar.

We walked down to our local church St John the Baptist where we were met by Father Robin who told us about the St John the Baptist Stained glass window.

We also visited Vine the Baptist Church where we were shown a dvd of people being baptised in the baptistery.
