Book Week

BOOK WEEK – 9th – 12th February

We have an exciting selection of activities planned for this week, to encourage all children to think and talk about books of different genres. Our aim is to encourage everyone to read for pleasure!

Please see the timetable at the bottom of this page which shows the range of activities taking place during this week.

Travelling Book Fair

The Travelling Book Fair arrives on Thursday 5th February with a lovely selection of books that your children have already been shown and heard about in assembly on Tuesday. The Book Fair is open after school every day, from Thursday 5th until Tuesday 10th February, in the Hall from 3.15 until 4.15. Please come in with your children and take a look at the range of books on display.

Favourite Books

On Monday 9th February, we are asking every child to come to school with their favourite book so that we can use discuss our favourites and create a display of artwork inspired by each child’s favourite book.

Author Visit

During the week, on Tuesday 10th February, we have a visit from Gareth P Jones, an author recommended to us by Sevenoaks Bookshop.

Gareth P Jones

Gareth P Jones

Gareth has written several books including the ‘Ninja Meerkat’ series;’ The Considine Curse’, ‘Space Crime Conspiracy’ and his latest book  ‘No True Echo’. He will be taking exciting workshops throughout the school and his books will be available to purchase after school in the Hall, signed by Gareth.

Library Visit

The library will be visited by Years 2, 3 and 4 throughout the week to look at books and listen to new stories. Years 3 and 4 will also be visiting Rockdale and Gloucester House to perform poetry and share their love of reading.

Tea and Tales

Meanwhile, Reception and Year 1 have invited their Grandparents to ‘Tea and Tales’ in the Hall on Wednesday 11th February. This will be a lovely opportunity for old and young to share stories together.

Fancy Dress

Finally, on Thursday 12th February, every child may come to school dressed as their favourite book; character from a book or even a non-fiction book. KS1 may wear these clothes to the Valentine’s disco later in the afternoon.

Author/illustrator visit

We are very fortunate that day to be visited by Mr Chris Innes, the husband of Mrs Innes who works in Year 4. Mr Innes is Art Director of Pan MacMillan’s Children’s Books. He is an author/illustrator of several picture books and books for older readers, many of which he has kindly donated to the school and we have added to our reading scheme.

Please continue to read to your child, whatever their age, and discuss the things you read. Sharing books, magazines and newspapers can be pleasure for both you and your child and encourages everyone to read for pleasure.

Thank you for your support and keep reading!
