Years 4,5 & 6 Residential T rip

Ironbridge, 23rd-25th  April
I am pleased to inform you that we have been able to arrange what promises to be an outstanding residential trip. It will provide excellent opportunities to broaden and contextualise the learning children are covering in class over the year particularly in study of the Victorian period with the industrial revolution, geographical study of a contrasting area in the UK, and all aspects of KS2 science as well as team building and life skills typical of all residential trips. We are currently developing a link with the local school and have very exciting plans for reciprocal learning, particularly through ICT, art and sport.

We will stay in the Coalbrookdale Youth Hostel, an impressive building with superb staff ideally situated and providing excellent accommodation. I have modelled this trip on one I led a few years ago and am excited at the wonderful opportunities available. Our plans for the 3 day trip includes visits to Blists Hill Victorian Town Museum (10 minutes by coach from our Youth Hostel) and Enginuity Science museum and the museum of the Gorge (walking distance), tile painting, Victorian cooking, bridge building challenges, a visit from a “Victorian” photographer as well as some study time at our hostel to capitalise on our learning.

A meeting will take place on Wednesday 25th January in the ICT suite straight after school, when parents and pupils can learn more about this opportunity.

We have done our utmost to keep costs as low as possible while still providing a full and special itinerary. We have been able to secure some subsidy to help funding and so the final figure, all inclusive, is £125 per child.

We ask you to return the permission slip indicating whether your child will be participating in this trip, together with a deposit of £25. The remaining balance can be paid by instalments over the next few weeks, for example £10 per week
