A very warm welcome to everyone at St John’s at the start of this academic year. 211 pupils flooded in to school yesterday morning in glorious sunshine. New shoes, shiny hair, smiles and happy chatter were prevalent.
As well as our 30 new Reception children we are delighted to have 11 children in other year groups and 4 new members of staff joining us this year.
All are suitably impressed with the changes that have occurred at school over the holiday. two superb teaching spaces have been created in the space previously occupied by Class 4, with new a mezzanine above. The KS1 toilets have been refurbished, in line with those in KS2, as part of the amazing project co-ordinated by Mr Suat Yasar (father of Elodie and Lois). Our hall is now fitted with an outstanding projector, screen and speakers through the generosity of our splendid PTA. Our Caretaker, Mr Martin Palmer, worked relentlessly throughout the summer holiday in order to achieve the high standard of workmanship. We value his contribution, and are all truly grateful to him
Our new Reception children appeared remarkably happy as they had their first proper taste of school. I have been reliably informed by some of them of the following facts:
“You have all new clothes for big school but you can wear your own old knickers because other people will be doing that.”
“Everything has to have a name, even your shoes and both of them because they don’t always belong on your feet.”
“Miss Allen is in charge and she probably will cuddle you if you miss your Mummy.”
