Victorian Day

Class 3 had a fantastic Victorian Day to celebrate the end of their history topic. Everyone dressed up as Victorian school children – even Mrs Newhouse and Mrs Casewell dressed up as a Victorian school mistresses!

Throughout the day the children had a taste of what life was like for school children in the Victorian era, including facing an inspection by the Reverend Oden! They wrote with chalk and practised copperplate writing. At lunch time they ate a traditional lunch packed in brown paper and at playtime they played with marbles, hoops and other Victorian games.

The children certainly learned a great deal about what it must have been like for a child attending school in the late 1800’s and from the looks on some of their faces, they might be very glad school is normally very different!
