Raising standards in reading is one of our key aims at St John’s this year.  We are passionate about enabling every child to become a competent reader, and it is out aim to equip them with the skills and enthusiasm for reading that will make reading a life-long pleasure.

Our school has a very well resourced library, (as some of you will recall when reorganising the books over the summer break!) nevertheless we are always looking to improve our provision.  I am delighted that the PTA have enthusiastically agreed to support our reading drive by funding purchase of over 200 Oxford University Press “Project X” books.  These are specifically designed to engage boys to read although they are by no means exclusively for boys.  A sample of these books will be available for you to peruse at the parent consultations next week.  (We plan to place our order next week having selected the best package for our need.)
