Music Specialist and Lessons

I am very pleased to let you know that we have appointed a music specialist to work alongside teachers to deliver class music lessons as well as leading senior and junior choirs. Mrs Sarah Carling met me last week and her enthusiasm and talent were invigorating; she will, I am sure, be a great addition to our team.

Recorder Club

Mrs Munday has kindly offered to run a Yrs 3-6 recorder club. Recorder club members will have lots of fun learning how to play the recorder as a group, with the aim of performing together at our end of year production. Research evidence suggests that a quality music education can improve self-confidence, behaviour and social skills as well as improve academic improvement. We have lots of music as part of our curriculum at St. John’s which recorder club will further enrich.

There will be no cost associated with the club. School will provide the recorders and “Recorder
World” tuition books. However, children who sign up will need to commit to attending weekly and
also to doing 10 minutes a day practice. If parents wish to purchase recorders for their children
individually please can they ensure that it is an “Aulos 303” recorder.

This club will run before School on a Friday morning from 08:15-08:45 after the Easter holiday. There
will only be 10 places for children in years 3-6 so please let the School office know if your child wishes to join in before the end of this term.
