On Friday Class 3 arrived at school dressed in Ancient Egyptian costumes – which were amazing!
The day began by looking at Ancient Egyptian writing, and writing their own names in hieroglyphs. We then counted “like Egyptians” and solved calculations using Ancient Egyptian symbols. The children really loved maths today!
We then watched Mrs Casewell as an embalmer mummify “ Johurah” so that we could learn to take notes and write instructions on how to make a mummy.
Our book corner was turned into a tomb and we could go in and read books and look up more interesting facts about the Ancient Egyptians. The afternoon involved designing canopic jars and making them out of papier mache. We learnt a lot about the Ancient Egyptian’s belief in the afterlife and a great day was had by the children and teachers alike.
