“Through reading in particular, pupils have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Literature especially plays a key role in such development”
“Reading also feeds pupil’s imagination and opens up a treasure-house of wonder and joy for curious young minds”
English National Curriculum September 2013
Class 2 have been immersed in literature throughout this year and have been inspired to read many books by looking at different authors every week, by reading and listening to many poems and stories and by engaging in many literacy activities.
The highlight of the year has been our trip to Sevenoaks Book Shop where we were welcomed and encouraged to browse among the books.
Mrs Clark read stories and poems to half the class whilst the other children selected a book that they wished to buy.
There was a real buzz of excitement as children compared and recommended books to each other and as they experienced the thrill of seeing books they have enjoyed upon the shelves!
We couldn’t wait to return to school so we could start reading our books.
